Boar

Here's one of the handsome fellows. Fresh from the bath. The boars aren't any bigger than the sows but of course better looking.

Tässä yksi komeista kavereista. Juuri noussut kylvystä, kun on noin puhtaan näköinen.

Free range pigs

Our new neighbours.

The sows with their piglets are in c. 10x10 metre squares separated by an electric fence. The piglets are small enough to escape below the fence and run around the nearby path where I walk our dog. I suppose when they're hungry they run back to mummy, so there is no risk of their getting lost.

The other sows are in larger pens with roughly 20 sows each. They have one big shelter and a triangular pen. Lately they've had some boars visiting so we're waiting for more piglets in the coming weeks. How long does it take for a pig?

In the meantime this batch of piglets has disappeared. They have moved on...


Kantavat emakot ovat omissa 10x10 metrin aitauksissa, jossa on pieni peltikoppi. Eteinen estää pieniä possuja pääsemästä maailmalle. Tässä koossa ne kiipeävät jo ulos, sähköaidan ali ja maailmalle. Nälän tullen mamma varmaan taas löytyy.

Muut emakot ja nyttemmin muutama karju ovat isommissa aitauksissa noin 20 ryhmissä.

Viime viikolla possut katosivat ja uusi ryhmä kantavia emakoita on kopeissa.
